Huey Gao

Head boxing trainer

As a teenager struggling with insecurity and being overweight, I found my way into a local boxing gym in my hometown. From the moment I stepped inside, I was embraced by a community of supportive teammates and dedicated coaches. With their guidance, I not only improved my skills but also gained the confidence and fitness I had been lacking. Boxing became a transformative experience, and I eventually began competing, which I continued to do for many years.

During my college years, I had the opportunity to coach my University’s boxing club, where I discovered my true passion for training others. Helping fellow fighters unlock their potential and reach their goals gave me a sense of purpose that has only grown stronger over time.

After years of working in corporate America, I returned to my first love—boxing. I decided to fully transition from competing into coaching and fulfilled my lifelong dream of opening my own gym. My mission is to create a positive, inclusive community where people can train, grow, and transform just like I did in my hometown gym.

Paolo Vasquez

boxing trainer

Growing up in a multicultural environment, I faced my own challenges with self-confidence. What started as an intimidating and brutal sport soon became a life-changing journey. Boxing helped me find my inner strength, and that passion for the sport ignited my desire to teach others how to unlock their own potential.

Training in gyms across London, the Philippines, Thailand, and the U.S., I’ve gathered a wealth of experience that has shaped me into the coach I am today. I’ve also had the privilege of participating in exhibition fights in Tampa, Florida, as part of the Hector Macho Camacho Promotions.

My goal is to inspire and empower fighters to discover their confidence, sharpen their skills, and reach new heights in their boxing journeys.

Brendan Lally

Boxing trainer

I discovered boxing while in college, feeling homesick and searching for a way to channel my energy and passion. What started as a simple hobby quickly turned into a way of life. The competitive spirit I developed pushed me to give everything I had to the sport, and my dedication paid off when I won a collegiate national championship.

After my competitive career, I transitioned into coaching and had the honor of mentoring a college team through several boxing events. One of my proudest moments was coaching a female 119lb collegiate national champion—the same tournament I had won years before.

With a deeper understanding of the sport’s intricacies, I’ve shifted my focus to studying boxing more intentionally. I now aim to help others appreciate the art of boxing while passing on the valuable lessons it has taught me.

Tian Yuan Wu

boxing trainer

In college, I joined boxing to learn some self-defense, exercise, and as something completely out of my comfort zone. Boxing became my escape from academics and everything else. I found a community, lifelong friends, and a challenging yet rewarding outlet that strengthened my physical and mental stamina.

Beyond technical skills, I developed self-discipline, problem-solving, perseverance, and a capacity for improvement mindset. I gained confidence in myself and my capabilities, with my highest point being awarded USIBA’s first female best boxer and 119lb collegiate national champion.

I am excited to share my experiences and lessons learned in this sport, while also highlighting how a deeper understanding of boxing can also be applied and extended to endeavors beyond the ring.

Joe Bergquist

boxing trainer

I’ve been boxing for the past 4 years and coaching for 2. My journey started during the pandemic when I was looking for a new challenge. What began as a way to pass the time quickly turned into an all-consuming passion and as my love for the sport grew, I knew I wanted to take it to the next level. That’s when I started training with a serious focus and set my sights on competing. In 2022, I fought in the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament, with plans to continue my competitive journey.

Alongside my personal training, I’ve coached and mentored friends, peers, and anyone interested in learning boxing. I’ve also spent the last 2 years coaching at local kickboxing gyms, expanding my expertise and knowledge in combat sports.
